Creating a page

Creating a page properly can be a huge asset to your website.

This article will explain the steps to creating, editing and publishing a page on your website.

The 2 ways to create a page:

  1. Go to the "Project" menu, select "Pages...". The side menu will appear. Click on the button. The page creation dialog box appears.
  2. In the "Page" menu, select "Create a page" then "New page..." (or "New sub-page...). The dialog box appears.

What do I need to do to create a page?

Step 1: Fill out the required fields

  • The title: it will be used by the template of your site and displayed at the top of the page, in the title of the tab of the site on the browser, and in the favourites Search engines will also use it. It is therefore a field that must be filled in.

  • The slug: this is part of the URL of your page. In general, you will want it to reflect the title of your page, and it will be automatically generated from it in an appropriate format. Keep in mind that it is always valuable to keep your slugs as short and sweet / pleasant / concise as possible.

Important!

Make sure your title is no longer than 60 characters. This is the display limit on Google, so by exceeding this amouunt, your title will not display correctly.

Step 2: Optional fields

  • The menu title: this is used to replace the title that is displayed in your site's navigation menu - normally, when the entire title is too long to be used here. For example, the title "Partner Company:Our Story" will be far too long to work well in the navigation menu, especially for your users on smartphones. "Our Story" would make a more appropriate menu title.
  • The page title: it should be used by the CMS formatting as an element. It is the title that is displayed in search engine results and at the top of your tab.

How do I fill out the advanced settings of the page?

  • The template: lets you define the template used for the current page.Your site probably has a custom list of templates available (home page, content page...). Templates are configured by developers to allow certain types of content to be entered into the page while maintaining a consistent layout.
  • ID: advanced field to be used only with the agreement of your developers, because changing this field without consulting them could break your site (visitors would really only see an error page)This is an identifier that allows you to find the URL of a page. We use it for example for the sitemap page, and changing an id can crash your site and make it unusable.
  • Root: allows you to shorten the navigation hierarchy into something manageable on sites that have deeply nested pagesWhen you check this box, your page will act as the first level page in the navigation.
  • Attached menu: allows you to add a custom menu to the page. Developers use it to add a custom menu corresponding to the current page.
  • Applications: allows you to add / attach custom applications to the current page. They can then replace the CMS content (this is the case of the Blog, which is a module that is "grafted" to a page), to be used with care.
  • X-frame option: used to define whether the current page can be embedded in other pages or websites (iframes).
